Chippewa County Road Commission permit forms are to be filled out in full with all detail needed to describe the scope of work and contact information of the person or company making the request.  Completed forms and or any questions can be emailed to  We can also be reached at (906) 635-5295 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Payments for permit fees due are to be paid to Chippewa County Road Commission and mailed to 3949 S. Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI  49783

For driveway permits, fill out a CHIPPEWA RIGHT OF WAY CRA 100.  Please place markers at the proposed site so the exact location of the driveway culvert can be inspected, if necessary.  Fees will be assessed based on the type of driveway being installed.  Please see the Permit Fee Schedule for details.

For utility installation within the Right-of Way, please complete a CHIPPEWA RIGHT OF WAY CRA 100 and include a complete description of proposed work, locations of proposed work and distance from the center-line of the existing road.  Also include engineered drawings or drawings shown over an aerial image.  A utility Right-of-Way permit application will be evaluated and assessed a fee based on the current fee schedule. Reference the UTILITY PLAN SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS link below for further details.

Please plan accordingly and have all transportation permit requests submitted 24-48 hours prior to the date of the desired move.  We cannot guarantee issuance otherwise.

On-Line Permit Applications - Oxcart

      Transportation Permits

June 1st, 2019 the Chippewa County Road Commission will be changing the way we process our transportation permits (Single move-mobile home move, Annual transport, Seasonal moves and Super Move permit applications.)

We will be using an online-based permitting system via the web at and we will no longer process transportation related permits in person.

Any entity wanting to apply for an overweight / oversize permit for Chippewa County roads must use the Oxcart permitting software.


Registration is easy and can be completed on the Oxcart website under the Trucking login/sign-up link

Once registered, companies will be able to reap the benefits of the following via Oxcart:

How to pay for Transportation permits.


In addition to the Chippewa County Road Commission permitting fee, Oxcart will require a nominal processing fee for each transportation permit. Oxcart will also assess a credit card fee for each permit processed.
